A man has tragically died after the car he was driving was involved in a crash with a lorry in Hampshire. The incident occurred on the A326 in Totton, near the junction with Monkton Lane, at approximately 03:15 BST on Thursday morning.
The man, aged 51, was from Christchurch, Dorset, and was behind the wheel of a silver Peugeot 107 when the vehicle collided with the lorry. Emergency services attended the scene, but unfortunately, the man did not survive the crash. His next of kin have been informed, and the family is currently being supported by officers.
In response to the accident, the A326 was closed between the A35 and Fletchwood Road for several hours to allow for investigation and clearance of the scene.
The road remained shut until around 15:00, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area. Authorities worked diligently to reopen the road as soon as it was safe to do so.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have launched an appeal for information and are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have seen the silver Peugeot 107, with a registration ending in JHZ, in the Totton and New Milton areas during the early hours of Thursday.
They are urging anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the vehicle’s movements before the crash to come forward, as this could assist in piecing together the events leading up to the incident.
The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the collision and are asking the public for any information that could help in understanding what happened.
They have thanked the community for their patience during the road closure and extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
