The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred early this morning in Middletown, resulting in the deaths of a man and a woman.
On August 18, 2024, at around 12:30 a.m., a blue 2022 Honda Civic was traveling southbound in the left lane of Dupont Parkway, near the intersection with Harris Road.
Simultaneously, a black 2015 Jeep Wrangler was heading northbound in the southbound lanes of Dupont Parkway, directly in the path of the Honda. This led to a head-on collision between the two vehicles in the left southbound lane, north of Harris Road.
The driver of the Honda, a 62-year-old man, and his passenger, a 51-year-old woman, both from Smyrna, Delaware, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names are being withheld pending notification of their family and relatives.
The driver of the Jeep, a 28-year-old woman from Massey, Maryland, was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately four hours as the scene was investigated and cleared.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Master Corporal J. Forester at 302-365-8485.
