In an Instagram post, V-Man shared that he personally reached out to Xandt to craft the new mask. “I’m a big fan of his work and felt it was time to ask him to create a piece of art for Slipknot. Amazing!” Venturella wrote in the caption.
Hedi Xandt explained that the mask’s design was inspired by the bassist’s face and an Italian expressionist statue. “The design is a reference to the previous incarnation of V-Man’s face and draws from an expressionist Italian statue that was damaged and forcefully transformed into a mask,” Xandt wrote.
The “Slashed” design is one of three different masks created for this tour. “It’s been an incredible pleasure to do this, and there’s much more to show! Thank you to Alessandro Venturella for the trust he placed in me and my work,” Xandt added.
Slipknot is performing 18 shows across North America as part of their 25th Anniversary Tour. The tour began in Noblesville on August 6 and will conclude in Des Moines on September 21.
