Latics have acquired Jake Caprice, an accomplished full-back.
The 31-year-old brings a wealth of Football League experience to the team, having previously played for Burton Albion, Leyton Orient, Tranmere Rovers, and Exeter City.
a player who was part of the Tranmere Rovers squad that was promoted to League One and who is well-known to manager Micky Mellon.
“I can’t wait to get going, this is a really exciting place to play my football,” Caprice remarked after signing with Latics.
“I know several of the boys pretty well, and I’ve worked with the manager before.
“We’ve been having conversations for a while, but I needed to make sure that this choice was the best one for my family and me.
“Micky is a manager who can bring out the best in me because he knows me both as a player and as a person.
“He’ll challenge me and let me enjoy playing football, which will hopefully lead to success for this club.”
Caprice joined Crystal Palace’s academy and advanced through the club’s youth ranks.
He left the South London club after eight years to join Championship side Blackpool, where he spent two years on the coast and went out on loan three times.
He first developed an interest in professional football with Dagenham & Redbridge, St. Mirren, and Tamworth.
Jake worked at Lincoln, Woking, and Leyton Orient over the course of the following four seasons until partnering with Mellon’s Tranmere in 2018 to supply
His most noteworthy tenure was with Exeter City, where he made 123 appearances and added another promotion to his resume by assisting the Grecians in their 2021–2022 League One promotion.
Manager Mellon expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I think something we lacked last season was pace in wide areas.”
Jake is a highly versatile offensive wing back who can also play on the left. Most vital, though, is his winning mindset.
He strengthens our team and creates competitiveness for positions.
“We’ve been after him for the better part of the summer, so we’re happy to have made progress.
“Jake is a good guy and a player that Oldham fans should be excited for; he will fit into the culture we’ve created here very well.”
The Latics’ home opener against Braintree Town on Saturday marks the start of their 2024–25 National League campaign.
