Castleford Tigers miss out on Wests Tigers prop

Tim Johannssen, the youthful prop, made his NRL debut for the Tigers last weekend against the North Queensland Cowboys.

In the Knock-On Effect Cup in 2024, Johannssen has participated in 12 games for the Western Suburbs Magpies. He made his NSW Cup debut against the Newcastle Knights in 2022.
But even before Johannssen made his debut, Castleford had been following him, even before the forward chose to re-sign with Wests for a two-year contract.

Johannssen, who resigned rugby league last year and rejoined the local Ryde-Eastwood Hawks in February, has had quite the ride.

Michael Frain, the manager of Hawks Football Operations, asserted that this demonstrated the effectiveness of the NSWRL pathway.
Frain told nswrl.com.au, “It’s a great example of how players can get into a club and move through the tiers and this can happen.”
It highlights the excellence of the Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup (Leagues Clubs Australia) tournaments, which subsequently draw the attention of NRL feeder clubs (The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup) and propel one’s career.

“Tim is a living example of how the system functions.”
