Former Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers forward Charlie Jolley has joined AFC Fylde as their latest summer signing. The 23-year-old has inked a two-year contract and debuted in last Friday’s pre-season friendly against Lancaster City.
Jolley, a product of Wigan’s youth academy, made six first-team appearances before moving to Tranmere in January 2021. He scored eight goals in 44 appearances for Tranmere, overcoming a knee injury that sidelined him for the 2022/23 season, before being released at the end of the last campaign.
Jolley shared his excitement with Fylde’s website, saying, “Seeing the facilities, the stadium, and the training ground, it’s exciting, and I hope we can pick up some good form this season. As an attacker, I want to score goals and bring energy to the top end of the pitch. I aim to create chances, be high-energy, and a nightmare for opponents. I need to play games, and this feels like the right time. I’m at a good, progressive club, and I’ve played with a few lads here before, who spoke highly of it. I’m excited to play consistently and score goals.”
Fylde head coach Chris Beech expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating, “I am really pleased we have recruited Charlie to bolster our attack at AFC Fylde. With exciting times ahead, it’s vital to support our squad’s development with players who enhance our philosophy and represent the AFC Fylde DNA. Charlie’s commitment shows we are on the right path. He will add high energy to the squad, and his style suits the type of football we aim to achieve. His instincts, movement, and techniques will enhance our attacking options and overall team performance.”
Fylde are also set to find out their 2024/25 schedule when the fixtures are released on Wednesday.
