Two Louisville football players have left the program

Three-star edge Eric Hazzard commits to Louisville football

Louisville has secured a commitment from three-star edge rusher Eric Hazzard from Franklin, Tennessee. A few days after what was described as a “phenomenal” official visit to Louisville, Hazzard announced his decision to join the Cardinals. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound prospect becomes the 11th member of Louisville’s 2025 recruiting class.

Hazzard made his official visit to Louisville last weekend, narrowing his college choices to the Cardinals and Memphis.

“It went phenomenal,” Hazzard said about his time at Louisville. “We got treated very well. The hospitality was great.”

During his visit, Hazzard enjoyed various experiences the city offers and got an in-depth look at the football program.

“We checked out all of Louisville,” Hazzard said. “I was with Coach Morris, and we drove around downtown Louisville and saw everything. We got to go to Churchill Downs, see the Yum! Center, and spend the day at the football facility, checking out the entire stadium.”

Most importantly, the relationship between Hazzard and the coaching staff has strengthened.

“It definitely strengthened them,” Hazzard said. “That was the first time I’ve got to sit down and talk to Coach Brohm one-on-one. I also got to really know the defensive side of the ball with Coach English and everyone else—Coach Hagan, Coach Morris, and Coach Ivey. It’s great to get to know them better and see what kind of people they are.”

The UofL football staff sees Hazzard as a player who can develop into a standout performer. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 91 edge prospect nationally.

“They definitely see me being a top guy at Louisville and standing out in the ACC,” Hazzard said. “They’ve all said that I’m an underrated player when it comes to ratings and stars, and they think I have what it takes to play at a big level.”

Hazzard received more than a dozen scholarship offers, including Memphis, Western Kentucky, UAB, Charlotte, and Middle Tennessee State, among others.

As a junior, Hazzard was a semifinalist for Mr. Football in Division I, Class 5-A. He recorded 70 tackles, including 23 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and seven pass deflections.
