The favourite candidate for Rhinos coaching role has been revealed

Paul Rowley, head coach of Salford Red Devils, continues to be the frontrunner for the Leeds Rhinos job, as reported by League Express.

Rowley, who turned down an offer from Hull FC earlier this season following Tony Smith’s departure, has earned acclaim as one of Super League’s standout coaches in recent times.

Known for his adept management on a limited budget at Salford, Rowley’s association with high-profile head coaching roles in the top tier comes as no surprise.

While the Hull FC opportunity did not materialize, League Express understands that Paul Rowley is still the top candidate to take over at Headingley following Rohan Smith’s departure.

Other contenders, including former Parramatta Eels coach Jason Demetriou, have also been interviewed for the position, but Rowley remains the frontrunner.

Rowley’s strong rapport with Leeds’ new sporting director Ian Blease, forged during their time together at Salford, has bolstered his candidacy. Blease has previously commented on Rowley’s potential appointment, stating, “I am interested in talented coaches, and Paul certainly fits that description. His name has been mentioned, but nothing has been finalized yet.”

Meanwhile, Rowley was questioned about the prospect of joining Leeds on Sky Sports two weeks ago. His response was clear: “There has been no contact with me whatsoever. I’m not anticipating anything. It’s flattering to be linked with any job; it’s a great privilege and honor, but I’m not expecting anything.”
