The expectation that Posh supporters will re-sign former captain Peter Kioso has been told to die.
The club tried many times in January to bring the captain of the previous season back from Rotherham; first, to stop him from being called up by his home club, and then again on Deadline Day, but the now-League One team told them there was no contract.
Since then, there have been persistent rumours of Posh’s interest, but nothing solid has indicated that the deal is any closer than Posh’s desire.
The right back was in Steve Evans’s plans for the upcoming League One season, the Rotherham manager said in May to the Rotherham Advertiser.
When asked about the latest rumour linking Posh to a move for Kioso circulating on a EFL transfers account on X, Posh chairman and owner Darragh MacAnthony told fans it was time to move on from the 24-year-old.
He said: “There is absolutely no truth at all. We moved on a long time ago. Good luck to him and his club. Let’s stop for last time talking about it.
“It was made quite clearly to us in Jan ‘they’ wouldn’t sell to us so we have stopped putting energy into it.
“I anticipate that he will join Championship Club if he departs. We are not defined by a single player, and every position is interchangeable over time. So let’s proceed.
Kioso, who was loaned out by Rotherham for the first part of the 2023–24 season, returned to his parent club in January against his will.
He scored once in his 27 appearances last season and became an instant success at Posh, becoming a cult legend.
