FC Cincinnati goalkeeper signs contract extension

FC Cincinnati announced today that Alec Kann has signed a contract extension with the team that will run through the end of the 2025 campaign.

In his three seasons with the Orange and Blue, Kann has made 20 appearances in all competitions. This season, the seasoned custodian has made three appearances for FC Cincinnati, winning two of them against Colorado Rapids and Atlanta United FC.

“We’re excited to have Alec in Cincinnati for another year,” said Chris Albright, FC Cincinnati General Manager. “He’s an important part of our goalkeeper group and he helps elevate his teammates around him every day.

Alec is an invaluable character within our club and we look forward to his continued success with FC Cincinnati.” In 2023, Kann featured in all nine U.S. Open Cup and Leagues Cup matches for FC Cincinnati, manning the net as the Orange and Blue advanced to the semifinals of the Open Cup and the knockout stages of Leagues Cup. The Decatur, Georgia native earned two shootout victories across the cup competitions.

Kann expressed his gratitude for being part of the club’s journey, saying, “I feel privileged to have contributed to the club’s growth and success. Considering my age, family situation, and the comfort level I have with the coaching staff and players, it’s a straightforward decision for me to stay.

I can’t imagine being anywhere else, and I envision a long-term future here.” The 33-year-old has also made four appearances for FC Cincinnati 2 in MLS NEXT Pro, having joined the organization in 2022 after five seasons with Atlanta United FC and initially entering Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire FC in 2015.

Kann shown exceptional effort off the pitch in Greater Cincinnati, especially in his frequent contacts with the Boys & Girls Club of Ohio, earning him the title of 2023 Procter & Gamble Humanitarian of the Year for the club.
